Carl Stones, Professional Steeplechase runner, coach

Carl got his start in running as a freshman at Round Rock High School, where he earned All-State honors in Cross Country and set several school records.

After graduating high school he attended the University of Tulsa where he lettered in Cross Country and Track all four years. At Tulsa Carl won several individual conference titles as well as four team titles in Conference USA before going on to earn All-America honors in Track and Field in his last collegiate race.

After graduating from Tulsa, Carl moved back to Austin to join Rogue Athletic Club where he ran and worked for two and a half years and qualified for his first USA Track and Field National Championship. After a long injury he made the move back to his college coach and not only made it back to the National Championship, but qualified for his first ever final in the 3000 meter steeplechase, earning him his first ever top 14 finish in the country.

Carl now lives primarily in Tulsa where he is training for the 2016 Olympic Trials and also works as a volunteer-assistant coach for the University of Tulsa. The 450 mile distance isn’t enough to prevent occasional trips back to Austin to seek the best physical therapy in the country.
